Call for Papers - Vol. 1-2026 Sistema Editoria
This call for papers aims to engage scholars in publishing studies, librarians, and professionals in the book sector, inviting contributions that analyze the reasons behind calls for censorship of texts, whether published or merely announced, from the 19th century to the present.
The goal is not to pass value judgments on censorship or on the censored texts, but rather to investigate who demands censorship, for what reasons, what editorial dynamics follow, and, where applicable, what strategies are implemented to overcome or mitigate its impact.
Particular attention will be given to:
- the role of the publisher (as an active agent either in endorsing or undergoing censorship interventions);
- the editorial spaces in which such requests emerge or are communicated to the publisher and/or the public (prefaces, correspondence, editorial materials);
- the types of censorship cuts, both editorial (modifications, omissions, rewritings during publication or reprinting, bans on promotion or advertising, publication delays, withdrawal of copies from circulation) and literary (self-censorship, textual mediation, strategic silences);
- the institutions involved (government bodies, libraries, professional associations, the educational system).
Proposals should consist of an abstract of no more than 2,000 characters, in both Italian and English, accompanied by keywords (also in English). Submissions must be uploaded by December 15, 2025, via the following link: https://www.ledijournals.com/ojs/ index.php/sistemaeditoria/submission/wizard or sent via email to: redazione@sistemaeditoria.it. Authors will be notified of the editorial board’s decision by January 7, 2026.
